One day, while monroe_nell and I were chatting on IM, Nell lamented the fact that there wasn't a due South Big Bang. I wanted to know what a Big Bang was, outside of the cosmological beginning of the universe. I am not terribly familiar with the fandoms that have Big Bangs, so I had never run across the term before.
We talked a little more about possible rules, how a due South Big Bang would have to differ from other Big Bangs (specifically the SGA BigBang, since that was Nell was familiar with), and a timeline. To me, this was all still very theoretical. After all, 20k or more words is way out of my realm of experience. I write snippets.
I hadn't known Nell for very long and didn't realize that when she decides on something, she gives it her all. Full tilt. The next thing I know, we've got a community, a poll and I'm co-modding. I still don't know how I got wrangled into that without noticing. Nell turned around and wrangled Sansets into helping out as well. I'm not sure if Sansets is as befuddled as I was about the whole thing.
Sage came up with the "World's Slowest Big Bang" title, because with the usual set of seasonal challenges that were running, it looked like our Big Bang was going to stretch from October to June - nine months. Most Big Bangs run a couple three months at most.
We started our sign-up with 48 authors, 21 artists.
Here at the end, we have 11 authors and 14 artists. Not bad, really, when you consider that most people in the due South/C6D fandom hadn't ever thought about a tough challenge like this one. The people who did drop out have nothing to be ashamed of. They tried, they gave it their best, but it wasn't meant to be. I personally am proud of everyone who signed up.
Welcome to our Big Bang. We have a variety of stories, a variety of art. There's something here that's sure to please everyone. Come in, have a seat, pick a story and enjoy yourself.
All the stories and art have a link to a LJ comment post - please comment and tell the author or artist how much you enjoyed their hard work. Or click on the email link and let them know that way. We've worked hard, sweated and bled over our fanworks and nothing makes us happier than knowing other people enjoyed them.
Also, please take a moment to thank the mods - there's a separate post for that. There has been a lot of behind-the-scenes goings-on that most people are unaware of. Also, please check out the shout-out post for all the thanks we owe to everyone who's helped with this challenge.
